Aoife McNicholl, captain of the Irish Powerchair Football Squad at the EPFA European Nations Cup in Limerick 2014 won the Football Association of Ireland’s Football For All International Player of the year Award on Sunday 22nd at a ceremony in the national television headquarters of RTE. This will sit proudly along with the player of the tournament award that Aoife won at the University of Limerick last July.
” I am overwhelmed at the support and congratulations from all over the world” Aoife said. ” I hope that my award helps promote powerchair football in Ireland even more and inspires others to come along and try it”.
Aoife is in her second year of studies at Dublin City University ( DCU) and plays for the club DCU Storm in the Association of Irish Powerchair Football’s (AIPF) National League and is currently battling it out at the top for the title. Aoife was a member of Ireland’s World Cup squad in 2011 and her talent for the game was spotted and commented on by many at that stage. She also represented Ireland at the European Champions Cup with her then club Midlands Utd in 2013. Aoife is known to spend a lot of time analysing matches on the internet and devising new set-plays and overall striving to improve her performance. You can be sure you will see ‘ McNicholl No. 10 ‘ on the international stage at many tournaments in the future.
