UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

AMERICAS ZONE

The United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA) governs the sport of power soccer in the United States.

The USPSA promotes power soccer on a national and international level through tournament play, referee certification, training and growth.  It is the mission of the USPSA that all persons with disabilities who use power wheelchairs will have the opportunity to play and experience power soccer.

The national organization was formed in 2006, although the sport was being played throughout the country for at least three decades before that. Currently, there are over 150 teams that are organized throughout the US.

60 teams compete on a regular basis.  To give perspective, there are over 400,000 people in the US that use a power wheelchair for their daily mobility. We’ve only reached 1%. It is the goal of the USPSA to continue to grow the sport to bring it to as many power wheelchair users as possible.

POWER SOCCER COMPETITION IN USA

Sixty teams compete within our conference-style system, with only 30 to 40 teams regularly attending the Conference Cup (typically due to travel-related expenses).

To ensure fair and exciting gameplay, teams competing for the Conference Cup are ranked and then assigned 10 to a conference. The top two teams from the lower-ranking conferences are bumped up to the next conference level. Each team must compete in at least 12 matches between September and April to receive an invitation to the end-of-season Conference Cup.
